Talk The Walk

Study Day with Tim Knowles
Saturday 22 March 2014
10.30 - 2.30
£7 (students / non-waged £3.50)

Acclaimed international artist, Tim Knowles talks about his recent walking works and leads a discussion about contemporary art and the 'act' of walking with a panel of artists from the West Midlands who utilise walking within their practice.

In the morning Tim will give a presentation about his recent walking works including Mungo Bush Walk, Australia and Kielder Forest Walk, Northumberland.

Following lunch, he will be joined by Glen Stoker, Nikki Pugh and Ben Waddington and through group discussion they will unravel the current thinking and interests of artists who utilise walking within their practice.

During the session we will also be joined via Skype by Kaspar Wimberley who works with Susanne Kudielka on projects internationally and together they curate Arttours Stuttgart in the city where they live.

Your ticket for the Talk the Walk event also includes entrance to 1395 Days Without Red (2011) at mac birmingham, which follows at 3.30pm, introduced by Eleanor Nairne, Curator of Public Programmes, Artangel.

The event coincides with two exhibitions of Tim Knowles' work in the West Midlands: Paths of Variable Resistance solo show at Airspace Gallery, 7 February - 15 March and Walk On group exhibition at mac Birmingham, 8 February - 30 March. Knowles' walking works utilise systems, rules and mechanisms to direct and record walks - often incorporating the use of elaborate apparatus or time consuming practices to introduce a sense of chance and unpredictability.
